That scope is just something I had here in the shop, it is a Leupold Rifleman 3-9X50, but I hope to later have a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9X40 mounted much lower, on stainless Conetrol mounts and rings. I like Nikon's BDC reticule, I've gotten used to using the one on my .17HMR and would like to have the ...

My son has one with a .22 Hornet barrel and a 20ga shotgun barrel. It shoots pretty good and has served him very well around the farm. An old friend once had one in .58 caliber black powder, it had a screw-in breech plug with a cap nipple in the middle. That thing was a barrel of fun, and the recoil...

I have a 14" .22LR match barrel for my contender that I would like to shoot from the bench, but right now the gun is out of action due to problems with the receiver. - It is extremely difficult to open and doesn't really even like to close! The drill here for .22LR accuracy testing is to obtain a bo...

I get by just fine with a Burris 2X handgun scope, but I only use the pistol in the field and do not put in much time shooting from a bench or rest. Once I got it sighted in, that was it for the bench - but that's just me. Click image to see it full-size. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/arw...

It's an illusion brought on by the camera angle. On the picture taken from the front end of the rifle, the stock looks stubby while it looks like you could pole-vault with that barrel. Here's a direct side-on picture that will give a better idea of the rifle's proportions, and a shot of the hinged f...

Savage Custom Shop

Last year I purchased a Savage .17HMR rifle, the model 93R17 BTVS. Here's a couple of pictures of this gun: ( Click image to see it full-size ) http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/arwatch/Firearms/th_IMG_1309.jpg http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/arwatch/Firearms/th_IMG_1310.jpg This rif...

I like wadcutter target loads best for practice.

Load them up just like you were going to shoot bullseye.

My pet rifle these days is a Savage 93R17 BTVS that I bought for varmint and pest control around the farm. It is a stainless steel, heavy barreled bolt action in .17 HMR that has a laminated thumbhole stock and a great trigger. http://www.savagearms.com/images/firearms/finder/ginormous/93r17btvs.png...

I had one of those guns, years ago. The weird thing about it was that if I held it very loosely in my hand, it was amazingly accurate. If I held the gun properly, it wasn't accurate at all. Eventually I gave it away to a buddy who was gunless and had just moved in to a bad neighborhood. He never had...

I have had two S&W model 41's, both with the short bull barrel. One was scoped, the other was not. Both were outstandingly accurate, and I never experienced reliability problems with either one of them. Currently I own a stainless Ruger MkIII Hunter with a Burris 2X scope. It is not up to the S&W mo...

Thanks to everyone for the kind words of welcome. Today the Swedish Mauser is the only classic military rifle I own, but about twenty-five years ago I had a fairly good collection of them going. One of my favorites was the 1917 Enfield chambered in 30-06, and I had a Chilean Mauser that I was very f...

I have a nice 1896 model Swedish Mauser that my family and I enjoy shooting. It has little recoil and is much more accurate than any of us expected it to be. The rifle appears to be collectible as all numbers match, it has good wood and it is in excellent condition. It was manufactured in 1909. My d...
