Viginia still thin ammo
Ammo situation here in western part of Virginia doesn't seem to be improving. I am in habit of calling at least the three closest Wally Worlds almost every morning. Finally scored last Wednesday, first time in three weeks, when the nearest store had just gotten in ONE case of the 550 Federal HP pack...

Ruger Pistol Parts Prices Went UP March 15, 2009
Just got the last few parts I wanted from Ruger for my Mark III, and thank goodness I ordered most of my parts earlier in year. I expected this order to be $28, and it was $55!!!!!!!! I called them up, and there was a large increase on March 15. Most all small parts doubled, like fifty cent springs ...

I've had some guns both ways, and the only difference I've ever noted is that a new stainless bore is a bit rougher than a blued model. Takes it a little longer to break in, and harder to get clean at first, especially with basic lead RN ammo. But that goes away, and you get all the benefits of long...

Ruger's standard replacement is a solid pin, I've ordered and gotten one. I like it better, as it is simple to access the firing pin/rebound spring. You can get an identical roll pin from a good hardware store, if you still want that. Simple tip: Ruger wants a dollar for the solid pin, and these day...

Duncan Long's book gives a simple tip for changing the mainspring. Once it's out of the housing, you drill a very small hole through the housing, right through the center of the mainspring well, near the latch. Then you put a small nail through the hole, and you can "screw" the mainspring in with ne...

My Mark III stainless bull does well with Wally World's bulk 550 round Federal HP, or any other Federal. Does good with thw Winchester "333" packs, too. The Federal brick ammo is cleaner. but the Winchester is a little more accurate. Function is about equal. Mine has eaten about 900 rounds since new...

Years ago I reblued a Mauser HSC (I think that was the model, a .32 pistol), using a Birchwood Casey kit that I think is around twenty bucks these days. The Mauser was in pretty good shape already, with no worn metal or rust, so the kit turned it out pretty nice. This was, though, a friend's WWII so...

Speedloader for Ruger Mark III (and probably all others)
I made a couple of magazine speedloaders for my Mark III. I had some scrap 1/8 inch Plexiglass that was almost already a good size, and decided to try something similar to ones I've seen manufactured. Basically just a 1 3/4 X 2 1/2 inch rectangle, with a 1 1/16 X 3/8 inch slot in the center. A piece...

To add to my earlier post concerning my "hoarding" 9K rounds of .22 ammo: I've had several opportunities to buy one or more cases of Wally World's Federal or Winchester bricks . On one occasion I did buy three "333" bricks, but have otherwise never bought more than two bricks in each purchase. It's ...

My 9K rounds may last until spring or so. I just went to a range today and fired about 300. Using my less favored ammo first. All Remington Golden Bullet brick today. Was surprised that I only got two FTE and one FTF using the Mark III. That's way better for the Remingtons than before I did my mods ...

Ammo storage and life span?
I have seen twenty year old ammo function as well as new, but I thought this would be a good new topic to share our knowledge on. Considering how most of us are piling up ammo, it's important to think about. I have mine stored in the original boxes, in G.I. ammo boxes. These are on a closet floor (M...

I hadn't owned a gun for twenty odd years until last November, and all the election scare convinced me to get back into shooting. I was convinced that the near future would make all firearms related things at least more difficult to get, do, or afford. I knew this would be due to panic fueling incre...

Inside a crowded BK was no place for a confrontation. The story does not give a second to second account of what went down, but I'd say the guy Rambo'd out and blew it. In this situation, getting a good look at him, and hopefully his vehicle and tag, seems sufficient. The chances the guy would have ...
