Gone over to Dark Side - S&W 22 S!
While I'm forever a Ruger fan, I recently purchased an S&W 22 S-1. A shooting friend has put over 10k rounds through his and reports that it is an accurate, well balanced, rimfire pistol. The gun has a surprisingly nice crisp trigger pull of approx 4#. I'm searching the internet for info and ideas t...

Had a chance to restudy the mag/mag base/ejector relationship over the Holiday break and report the following: 1) Both my 22/45s allow the left rear mag lip to (almost) touch the ejector in each gun. Can't even get a piece of paper between them when seated. The bottom of the ejectors do not show any...

"We have met the enemy and he is us!" said Pogo. First I must confess that upon recount I found that I have ten 22/45 mags, but no hanging chads! Secondly, for both of my 22/45s all of the mags are within a hairs breath of touching their respective ejector pin. Don't want to deepen the frame because...

Excellent advise. Thanks Bullseye. I'll spend some time this weekend (hopefully) studing the relationship of the mag and the ejector pin. I assume that one must take an equally tiny amount off both the front and rear of the straps to ensure that the mag angle remains the same vis-a-vis the reciever ...

22/45 (original) mag seating question???
I have eight mags for my 22/45s (originals, not MKIII). Both Ruger frames that I have require the mag to be seated and then a slight forward push to be correctly and fully "locked" into place. I have both Ruger and Dominck Notaro mag bases and yes I did scrape a bit of the Notaro bases to get a prop...

I cut off the tops of Bic ball-point pens with a razor blade about 1/4" longer than the Ruger safety button. Add a little super glue gel to the inside of the pen top with a toothpick; wait about ten seconds; slowly press the top over the safety button with the gun on it's left side so that no gel ru...

S&W Model 41 safety lever
I want a Model 41 but hate the tiny safety lever on these guns. S&W now has a larger safety lever on their new Model 41 guns produced in the last few years but it's still quite small. Has anyone found a supplier that has made a large paddle type safety lever for the 41? I did a few "searches" on thi...

Took your advise , stork, and used a flat file and very carefully and slowly filed down the front sight while shooting a group between each filing. Now have the gun at 6 o'clock hold at 25yds. using CCI SV. Will smooth the front sight top and paint it with flat black.
Thanks for everyone's comments.

I am coming to the defence of a fellow Virginian. If Ruger22 wants to smooth out a sharp piece I say he should do it! My favorite pistols are S&W 9mms but their slide release(s) are generally quite sharp. Therefore, out came a small file and emery board to merely knock down the rough edges. Now when...

Georgezilla: On page #36 of the March/April 2011 American Handgunner magazine the noted gunsmith Alex Hamilton wrote that he would never use grease "... on any internal working surfaces of a firearm." Therefore, I am compelled to explain my above Rig+P comments a bit further. I use Rig+p on the slid...

Georgezilla: My 1911 gunsmith is also a mechanical engineer. Confirming Bullseye's explanation, he also stated that the latest stainless will resist galling; however, I now use Rig+P Stainless Steel Lub (from Brownells) on all my stainless guns. I shot IPSC for many years using a Springfield 1911 si...

Roger, Bullseye. Using CCI SV the pencil barrel from a bench groups tighter and about an inch lower and just slightly to the right of Fed bulk groups. That's quite typical for SV I believe. I'm much to obsessive compulsive to try to use "Kentucky windage" which nevers works well for me. Drives me cr...

Thanks, Bullseye. The equation indicates a net change for 5" of elevation to be 0.047" adjustment while installing the rear adj sight will increase it approx 0.125" and then it will require the front Orca fin. Looks like Stork's idea is the best option. Use a flat file: take a couple of swipes; shoo...
