Tightening in that screw should actually increase the pre-travel and not interfere with the sear resetting. As the screw loosens or backs out, the pre-travel is decreased. It can decrease to the point that the sear won't reset. As mentioned previously, it doesn't take much.

E clip remval
I did one recently for a friend. I think I put a small instrument (can't remember what?) under the bottom of it a pried up. It removed it all right :D . That e clip went flying never to be found again, LOL. I had to go to the hardware store and buy a new one. You may want to put a magnet above it as...

Mark III Hunter - Inherent Accuracy?
I was wondering what would be the expected inherent accuracy of my Mark III Hunter at 25 yds.? Say from a Ransom Rest and after thorough break in (500 rounds) . That would be with all shooter errors removed and with top notch target ammo. I was guessing it should be capable of less than 1" groups at...

Yes!
That's certainly true. I wouldn't let brake parts cleaner contact anything plastic or painted. Actually, if you want plastic safety, you could use carburetor cleaner (I think it's plastic safe?)

Difficult Disassembly / Reassembly?
I can disassemble / reassemble Ruger semi-auto .22 pistols almost blindfolded as I've been doing those for almost 50 yrs. If you want something difficult, try a Colt Woodsman. I bought a nice one a couple of weeks ago at a gun show. I just got to the range today and put 200 MiniMags through it. It f...

Gun scrubber?
I use brake cleaner from AutoZone instead of Gun Scrubber. I believe it's just as effective and a heck of a lot cheaper. As stated earlier, you do need to relube.

Water
The way I do it is to get a gallon freezer bag to hold the water. I make a hook out of a piece of coat hanger wire with a hook at both ends, one for the trigger and one for the bag. A hole is made in then freezer bag in the unsealed part with a hole puncher for the hook to attach to.I weigh the hook...

Pre-travel screw
I tried to set my pre-travel screw as close as I could also. After a few attempts, I found that I had to have about 1/16" or 1/32" of trigger pre-travel movement for the disconnecter/sear to reset itself reliably. I tried several times to adjust the pre-travel with less free movement than that, but ...

Notch/"High Viz"
I'm gonna give the notch/target rear blade with the "High Viz" front a try. I appreciate your experience on this little trip.

Red/green color blind
That red "High Viz" would stand out to any normal person. I'm red/green colorblind so the red doesn't look to me the way it looks to anyone else. The green insert I can see pretty well (it even seems bright). What I can't do very well is focus on the front sight and rear sight at the same time. I fo...

Thanks
Thanks kc for that info. I do seem to remember seeing that post. Did you actually shoot it with that notch (Patridge) rear sight blade with the "High Viz" front sight? How did that work out. I can just order that Mk III target notch rear sight blade from Ruger (I think) for just a few bucks. I'm jus...

Functioned flawlessly
Put 200 rounds through the pistol today with no malfunctions. The shortened plunger spring worked just fine. I did enjoy the 2 lb. crisp trigger. I do wish I could have shot better with these old eyes. I shot the MK III Hunter side by side with my old Belgian Browning Challenger. I did better using ...

1 coil removed
I did remove 1 coil from that spring. The disconnecter bar/sear seemed to reset just fine when the the bolt was operated manually and dry fired a few times. I will take it to the range tomorrow for a live fire test. I do now have a crisp, creep free, 2-2 1/4 lb. trigger pull with minimal pre-travel ...

Trigger plunger spring?
Was just wondering if there is any reason that the trigger plunger spring on the MkIII cannot be shortened slightly (1/4-1/2 coil?) in order to take a few ounces off the trigger pull? I do realize that the trigger must be returned to the full forward position in order that the sear will be reset. Se...
