Ballpark Value of Ruger P89T

I have a Ruger P89T Special Edition 9mm that has had fewer than 500 rounds through it and is complete with the black-plastic factory case, manual, etc. The condition of the finish is 99+% (arc lightly scribed by safety). I am thinking of selling this; my wife needs a carry gun and this one is both t...

Please don't take my post as a criticism of my club's range. It is not. I have shot at a number of indoor ranges, including 50-yard, state-of-the-art ranges that accept high-caliber rifles and have filtration systems that cycle the room volume so rapidly there's almost a breeze. And I come away with...

Airborne Lead, Etc.

Indoor season has started here in Michigan (although I will continue to shoot outdoors in my pasture until it's too cold for the bolt/slide to cycle -- for a bullseye shooter, there is just no substitute for 50-yard shooting outside, in the wind). A number of the folks I shoot with indoors are weari...

I'll be counting the minutes. Here's how it was grouping in timed fire before it left (but this is from the 25-yard line -- 50 would be a much different story): http://www.tommorrisey.com/mediac/400_0/media/MorriseyMilSpec.jpg This was two three-shot strings with the conventional one-handed bullseye...

Thanks for the advice, all. I have purchased a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec 1911-A1 45 ACP. AFter putting four range-visits worth of rounds through it (per my smith's advice), I am shipping it off this week for conversion to a 50-yard wad gun. I'll post pix in a few months when the pistol comes back ...

The sights were not a consideration in my case, as my smith will mill the slide out for a Bo-Mar dovetail, anyhow. I am literally taking this pistol from the gun store to UPS and shipping it off to be smithed. I am not the world's greatest bullseye shooter, and probably not in the top 10,000 of the ...

Answering at least part of my own question here: The GI-45 has a "military" (i.e., stock M1911-A1) ejection port, while the MilSpec's is lowered. A lowered port is necessary for reliable ejection with a scope. Having the GI's port lowered and then having the gun refinished to cover the milled work w...

Springfield Armory: GI-45? Mil-Spec? Same basic gun?

Can you describe for me what the difference is between Springfield Armory's Parkerized GI-45 1911-A1 (SA Model #PW9108L) and their Parkerized Mil-Spec 1911-A1 (SA Model #PB9108L)? Are the two guns absolutely identical internally? No differences whatsoever? I am purchasing a pistol for conversion to ...

Now all I have to do is keep a straight face as I tell my wife, "Yes, Honey. I took all those old grocery bags to the recycling center."

Stork -- many thanks for the reply, and I appreciate the candor. I have many friends who bought "target" .22s that are so light/loose that they can't group on a coffee-can lid at 50 yards. I'm glad I bought a Ruger that can shoot tight enough to put 'em all in the X from the bench (even before the t...

Hardball Gun

If you want to buy over the counter I would look at either Les Baer or Rock River
How about Colt Gold Cup Trophy? Colt claims it is a "take-it-to-the-firing-line" gun. Is that the truth, or hyperbole?

Hardball Gun

Let me know if I am straying too far off-topic, and I will start a new thread, but... How much should I spend for a competitive hardball .45? I want a gun that I can use for the centerfire and .45 parts of the Bullseye matches, as well as straight hardball matches. I never plan on carrying this gun;...
