My MK2s don't have it, now nor do my MK3s. It has little to do with the way I shoot, but does annoy me when field stripping it as I like to use a magazine feed lip when field stripping them. I don't like to have a magazine in there when dry firing in preparation to field strip or when practicing tri...

My all time favorite .22 handgun is my Ruger mk2 slabside competition target topped with a weaver 2.5x-8x, followed closely by contender with 14" match chambered barrel. Both of these handguns have accounted for a truckload of squirrels with my all time record of 117 squirrels in 1 season with a han...

I'm going to ruffle some feathers but I believe most people shouldn't strip past field stripping. The obvious exceptions are people like yall who already know exactly how to get them back together. You wouldn't believe how many dozens upon dozens of firearms I've had brought to me in an box over the...

I use crossed ceramic sticks. They're already set to the perfect angle and you can sharpen BOTH sides at same time. In fact-they're idiot proof-I know this because I used to mess up knife edges until I started using them. All you do is hold the knive vertical and 90 degrees to the sticks and bring t...

I personally use 0000 steel wool & light gun oil. If the rust is bad enough, you'll have to touchup blue where the rust has already gotten past the level of the surface. My personal choice of cold blue is Oxpho blue available from Brownell's. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ProductDetail.aspx...

Another tip is to simply use an mk2 hammer such as those from Volquartson or Power custom and an mk2 hammer bushing-LOTS faster if you have to do several of them and are leery about honing the factory hammer (for reduced pull weight)in fear of going too far. Personally I use Ruger mk2 hammers and st...

New member introductions?
Is this where new members introduce themselves? If not please move this post to it's proper place. I just joined this forum a few days ago and am an semi-retired gunsmith/armorer/custom rifle builder and dad & grandad with 27+ years experience. I've been NRA & state certified shooting instructor for...

First, you need to decide between AR15 as in .223 or AR10, which is longer and takes the .308 family cartridges. For an 1st build, may I recommend building an AR15 as it'll be cheaper, and the options are limitless. Buy a good lower to start with, it's kind of hard to buy a poor made 1 at this time....
